My favourite project
Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog.
Today I’m talking about my best project that I’ve been part of, which isn’t an
IT project. It’s a play that we did in my old upper secondary school in ninth grade,
and I was playing one of the two main characters. Usually those plays in
schools haven’t been that complex or long, instead they were mostly just comedies
or people goofing around on the stage but ours was on a different level. Our
play was called “Musta aurinko nousee” (The black sun rises) which also happens
to share the same name as a popular Finnish song. It told a story about a group
of teenagers whose classmate died tragically and their ways to cope with it.
I was working with my drama group. We did
short plays or skits in the past, but this was our final project before
graduating. We started practicing approximately three months before the main
event. Two hours a week and our homework was to practise our lines. After
getting one of the leading roles, I realised what I got myself into. I had so
many different lines and scenes where I needed to be part of. On top of that I
even had to sing in front of everyone. Yes, you heard me right. I was already tense
and stressed about remembering the lines, so my first reaction wasn’t excitement.
Then I gave it some time and after countless practises I was confident enough
to sing. Singing was the most difficult task for sure. At the main event there
were so many people in the audience, and we were super nervous, but we
absolutely nailed it.
I was so proud of myself but also for our
group. Our performance was so touching that even some of the teachers were
crying after the end. The feedback was also extremely positive. Those comments
and reactions made it worthwhile. The fact that people were crying came out of
the blue for me, so I was even more surprised and proud of us. I for real
thought of becoming an actor for a moment. I learned a lot from the project. I overcame
my fear of singing in front of everyone, understood more about plays and the
project of making it and most importantly I learned how to act.
Then back to my English learning goals,
which are proceeding nicely. I’ve been able to stick with my plan of how to
improve my vocabulary. I’ve tried new learning techniques as well. For example,
I have played a lot of Quizlet and recently I started a video game where I have
already encountered tons of new words. In the future I could perhaps start reading
an English book since I haven’t read a book in a while, and I see it as an
important but fun challenge. That was all for today so thank you for reading
this far and I’ll be back with a new blog soon.
Sounds like quite an experience and I'm sure something like that can bring a group together. Singing on a stage in front of all your peers does sound like a nightmare come true for many. Congratulations on committing to it and making it out the other side! I could never.
VastaaPoistaWhat a great story, I hope the play has recorded so you can re-visit the good memories. Singing in front of people is definitely nerve-cracking, yet quite euphoric when you feel you've done well. Your class definitely nailed it since the audience responded so passionately. Also good to hear you feel you are making progress with your English studies. Looking forward to your future posts!
VastaaPoistaWhat an incredible experience! It must have been both challenging and rewarding to take on such a demanding role, especially with singing involved. Also, great to hear that your English learning is going well. Keep up the hard work, and I’m looking forward to your next post!
VastaaPoistaThis was a really engaging post! Also you thought of becoming an actor? That’s when you know it was a special experience. Ever thought about doing more acting?
